Greetings from BFHU's CEO, Nigel Salomon

As the newly appointed Chief Executive of the British Friends of the Hebrew University, one of the most pleasing things to discover was the existence of a vibrant Alumni Group in the UK which has become a model for other Hebrew University Friends groups worldwide. Who better than Alumni, to appreciate the heritage of Israel’s greatest educational institution along with the contribution it makes to improving the lives of peoples across the globe?

When attending the June Board of Governors event on Mount Scopus, I had the privilege of hearing from the newly appointed President, Menachem Ben Sasson, at his very first meeting after his inauguration. He expressed a number of key challenges - the very challenging financial situation of the University, the need to radically improve its image and reputation, and the part Alumni both in Israel and beyond can and should play in this. So, thank you for your involvement in what I hope will be a life-long association with the University and the British Friends.

The British Friends is not immune to the challenges of the economic climate. We are carefully managing costs and focusing resources like any business on priorities such as improving our relationship with donors, smart marketing to finding new donors, and nurturing young leadership. Alumni can play a role in all these efforts so please do step forward if feel you can help us in any way.

We’re now fully settled in our new offices in Finchley which give us the space to work in an efficient and comfortable environment. Once the summer recess is over, it’ll be business as usual with a great series of events being planned by Ayelet and Rona. I look forward to meeting you personally. Until then, and once again, thank you for your support.
